A search has been mounted for a 25-year-old man who went fishing west of Karuma Wildlife Reserve at Murchison Falls National Park on April 19, 2024, but was never seen again thereafter.

Umar Odongo is said to have disappeared when he went to fish accompanied by another man yet to be identified.

The locals there believe that Odongo must have been mauled by crocodiles that normally swim from a small island to the River Nile shore banks where he had gone fishing.

The chairman of Akuridia village in Juma parish, Kamdini sub-county, Oyam district, Morris Okot, said Odongo the search was launched after Odongo failed to return.

According to Okot, four fishermen have reportedly been killed by crocodiles at the same point where Odongo disappeared within a three-year period.

Terence Omonya, the chairman of Kamdini sub-county has, however, cautioned fishermen to always have protective and safety gear whenever they engage in the activity.
