Police in Jinja arrest three for allegedly stabbing weightlifter

JINJA - Police in Jinja City have arrested three youths for allegedly murdering Ugandan weightlifter Prossy Nyanga.

This was revealed by the Jinja City Police Station commander, David Otabong, at his office in Jinja.

According to Otabong, at 4:00am on Sunday, a report was made at Bugembe Police station under CRB: 203/2022 of a registered murder case of one Nyanga, 33, of Bugembe Town Council who was from her shop proceeding back home.

 “On her way, she met thugs who waylaid her and stabbed her and in the process, she bled so much. In the process of going to a nearby clinic, she did not make it,” Otabong narrated.

Arrests

He Police intervened after the gruesome murder with some of the local leaders who in the process came across Edson Byansi Mulaba, a resident of Idundi village in Bugweri district who was in the vicinity with a blood-stained knife and two phones that are alleged to have been got from the deceased.

 “After scrutinising and going through the phones, it was confirmed that one belonged to the deceased and Byansi was arrested,” Otabong added.

Two other suspects were arrested and these included 21-year-old Sowedi Wavamuno and 19-year-old Lazarous Wakubi, both residents of Bugembe. A total of three suspects are under custody at Jinja City Police Station and will help Police in investigations to apprehend more suspects who were in a group.
