NAMUTUMBA

Residents of Ivukula sub-county in Namutumba district are in shock after bees stung a ten-year-old boy to death.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening after the boy and his friends hit a bee hive with a ball.

According to one of the area local leaders, Ronald Bakaki the councillor for Nabitula ward, at the time of his death the boy was living with his grandfather, Jowali Waleyendo.

"The children never knew there was a bee hive under the tree they were playing. As they kicked the ball, it hit the hive causing the bees to surround the boy and stung him to death," Bakaki said.

He called upon the local government to provide fumigation sprays to get rid of the harmful bees.

Busoga East Police region spokesperson Diana Nandawula decried the incident and warned parents who are interested in beekeeping to do it far from communities.
