President Museveni discharges Kayihura and 10 other Generals

A sendoff of senior army officers, formally starting their retirement today is underway at State House Entebbe hosted by President Yoweri Museveni.

Gen Edward Kale Kayihura, the most senior officer among the group is scheduled to give a speech on behalf of his colleagues .

Before discharge, Gen. Yoweri Museveni who is also the Commander in Chief of the Uganda People's Defence Forces  (UPDF) will address the officers some of whom are accompanied by their immediate families.

Dignitaries at the ceremony include the Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs Vincent Ssempijja and the Chief of Defence Forces, General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi  among others. The group retiring today include Brig. E. Kwihangana who joined military service in November 1973.

Another 93 senior army officers at the ranks of colonel, Lt colonel and majors were discharged last week by the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces and Commander Land forces, Lt. General Peter Elwelu . The ceremony took place last week on August 25 at the ministry headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.
