You can create rock garden along your fence

Looking for quick ways to beautify your fence garden? Consider installing a rock garden, also called a stone garden. This is a small feature designed to embellish small and big compounds.  

Joshua Twinomurinzi, a landscaper says such a garden is easy to maintain because the way it is installed helps to hinder weed growth.  Its plants are also slow growers. They include bromeliads, succulents and cactus. You can also plant palms.

He says, you need bricks, pebbles, gravel, volcanic stones and sand among others.

Pebbles are available in different colours and sizes.

For a focal point, you can use a pot, sculptures, bricks, rocks or a fountain to enhance the beauty.

How to install a rock garden

Mariah Kiwagama, another landscaper takes you through the process;  

Step 1:  Prepare the ground by digging about two inches down. Level the ground and compact the soil.

Step 2: Lay black polythene on the base with small holes to allow water to sink in the soil. Fasten it on the ground with nails. After, cut out big holes where you will place the plants.

The polythene controls the plants from growing wildly.

Step 3: If you want to add lights, ask the electrician to do the wiring. But guide him on where to place the lights.

Step 4: Your rock garden needs a focal point. It can be a small fountain, sculpture, pots or any art piece. Place it in the middle or in the corners.

Step 5: Put a layer of lake sand with big particles in the garden before adding the plants.

Step 6: After planting, it is now time to play around with stones. Add rocks, stones and pebbles in different colours. Ensure to pull off amazing designs.
