As Labour Day celebrations commence in Fort Portal today (May 1, 2024), motorists have been advised to exercise caution and anticipate heavy traffic congestion, particularly along Nateete Road, especially at the Busega roundabout, according to Police.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: With senior government officials expected to travel to Fort Portal district for the festivities, the influx of vehicles is likely to exacerbate traffic conditions in the area.

“In anticipation of the increased traffic volume, both traffic officers and general duties personnel have been deployed to manage the congestion and ensure the safety of commuters.

The presence of law enforcement aims to mitigate the risk of incidents such as phone and bag snatching, particularly for officials returning late in the evening,” Onyango said.

He added that: As motorists navigate the roads during this busy period, it is essential to remain patient, follow traffic regulations, and exercise vigilance to ensure a smooth and safe journey for all.

“Remember to plan your travel routes accordingly and allow for extra time to reach your destination, taking into account potential delays caused by the Labour Day celebrations,” Onayngo said.
