The newly elected Uganda Golf Club (UGC) captain, Paul Rukundo has promised to revamp the club's activities to cement its position as the leader in the industry in the country.

Rukundo, who has been serving as the competitions and Public Relations Secretary in the outgoing executive that Emmanuel Wamala headed, beat Paul Nuwagaba who has been vice-president with 177-66 votes during an elective general assembly to assume the seat for the next year.

He promised the voters a secure and sustainable future for the UGC by positioning it as a premier golf destination, a vital green space in Kampala, and a leader in environmental, social, and governance excellence, among other pillars he lined up in his manifesto.

“We'll transform the club house into a social haven, buzzing with themed events, delectable dining options, and laughter-filled nights. Picture families bonding over putting contests, friendships forged over friendly competition, and memories made that go beyond the final score,” Rukundo stated.

“Imagine a Uganda Golf Club transformed, not just by manicured greens and pristine fairways, but by the vibrant hum of a thriving community. A place where every swing resonates with excellence, every putt whispers possibility, and every laughter echoes long after the final round. This is the vision I bring to the Captain's Seat,” Rukundo affirmed.

He will serve alongside a young and vibrant team that includes Jerry Owachi, the new vice-captain, and Emmanuel Wamimbi, as new Honorary Secretary and treasurer Walter Tukahirwa.

He is keen on improving ongoing course maintenance for impeccable playing conditions, and upgrades to drainage, clubhouse, and other facilities. He also plans to introduce top-notch equipment and a golf simulator for enhanced practice and ensure improved tee boxes for a better playing experience.

“Picture a course boasting upgraded facilities, from a sprawling new clubhouse to tournament-grade practice ranges. Think of eco-friendly initiatives that green our game and sustainable practices that ensure future generations can enjoy this slice of paradise.

“Our events, tournaments, and social gatherings will be more Vibrant Interactive Bold & Experiential (VIBE) with active sponsorship engagement and high-quality entertainment,” he stated.

He promised to work with everyone at the club to create a Uganda Golf Club that's more than just a course, but a community, a legacy, and a symbol of excellence.

Rukundo, a father to two daughters is an Aeronautical Engineer by profession, a businessman, and a sportsman. He is the Director and CEO of Smart Business Intelligence among several other portfolios he holds with different entities.

His team will serve alongside two new members of the Board of Trustees that will replace Dr. Sam Zaramba and Sam Okello Ocero who are stepping down. The other Board of Trustees members include Jim Muhwezi, Charles Kareeba, and Esther Okullo, while Patrick Magala, Nazim Thurani, and past captain Jackson Karyarugookwe will vie for the two slots available.
