Vice-President of Uganda Jessica Alupo has assured residents of Teso that there will be no more cattle theft and insecurity in the region.
Alupo attributes the development to the disarmament programmes and improved security measures in the region.
According to her, progress has been made in restoring peace and security in the region, enabling the Government to implement development initiatives, such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Programme and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme, among others.
Alupo made the remarks on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at her home in Katakwi, before the country heads to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries on Thursday.
In the meantime, several supporters of Violet Akurut Adome and Angela Anuken have switched allegiance to Alupo’s camp.
Alupo, Akurut and Anuken are all vying for the NRM party flag for Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament seat.
The Vice-President welcomed the new supporters, describing their move as a demonstration of renewed confidence in her leadership.
“I sincerely welcome you all to my team of focused leadership. You have made a wise and patriotic decision to join the winning team that delivers results and empowers communities,” Alupo said.
Send your children to school
At the same reception, Alupo emphasised the importance of education and encouraged parents to send their children to school.
She also announced plans to upgrade the road network in the district, including the Gweri-Toroma-Magoro-Ngariam road, to a first-class murram road. Additionally, the Katakwi District Hospital and several health centres will be upgraded.
Reject external influence
Katakwi Resident District Commissioner Stephen Okure Ilemukorit called for peaceful elections and urged voters not to allow outside influence to affect the outcome of the elections.
Okure, however, emphasised the importance of presenting manifestos to the electorate and ending the campaign and election process with peace and development.
Last weekend, children and youth affairs state minister Balam Barugahara and energy minister Ruth Nankabirwa, during a mammoth rally in Katakwi praised Alupo as a passionate leader and a team player who works closely with colleagues in cabinet to deliver services to Ugandans.
They urged the people of Katakwi to recognise the trust President Yoweri Museveni has placed in the Teso by appointing Alupo to the country's second-highest office.
Nankabirwa said Alupo is a hard-working, passionate and cooperative leader who shares her experience with others in cabinet to ensure service delivery. She urged the locals to support her fully in these elections.
