The World Rally Championship (WRC) returns to Africa with Kenya hosting the global event on June 24-27, 2021 in Nairobi and Naivasha, Kenya.

Hassan Alwi, one of the five Ugandan rally drivers participating in the event is targeting a finish, in an event that starts at Kasarani and ends in Hell’s Gate National Park Naivasha, covering 18 stages that total 320.19kms (198.9miles).

The two-time Total-UMOSPOC Kabalega Rally winner navigated by Kenyan James Mwangi told New Vision Online that he is going to lift the Uganda flag high.

“I competed in the Safari Rally in 2017 and we finished, this will be my first attempt in the WRC, but second outing in Kenya, and I want to finish the rally,” Alwi said.

“I’m expecting to learn from the best in the game, learn how to improve my driving and my team but most importantly represent my country,” the International University of East Africa director added.

With the event set to cover 320.19kms, it will require a high level of fitness and concentration for the crews.

Manufacturing crews of Ford, Toyota, and Hyundai are all represented in the rally that returns to Africa since the 70s.

Ronald Ssebuguzi, Kephar Walubi, Duncan Mubiru Kikankane, and Yasin Nasser are the other drivers who will be carrying the Uganda flag in the sixth round of the twelve WRC calendar events.
