Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai and world champion Halima Nakaayi headlined Uganda's charge at the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya on Saturday in the women's 3000m steeplechase and 800m.

Chemutai has been working her way back to full fitness after a long battle with injury that sidelined her for months subsequent to her triumph in the women's 3000m at the Tokyo Olympics.

With the Commonwealth Games and World Athletics Championships just months away, Chemutai will be eager for a strong showing at the Kenyan event that has attracted a number of the world's top athletes.

Nakaayi will be favourite to win the women's 800m race after enjoying an inspired season that has already produced her second major world medal - at the World Indoor Championships.

The Ugandan contingent also includes women's 400m national champion Shida Leni and national women's 3000m star Winnie Nanyondo, who will race in the 5000m. Dismas Yeko will compete in the men's 5000m with Albert Chemutai and Ezekiel Mutai running in the men's 3000m steeplechase.
