Wakiso Giants registered a third straight league win over troubled URA on Tuesday to move third on the table and within one point behind leaders BUL with 10 points after five games.

The Purple Sharks have had a good start to life under John Luyinda who took charge of the club at the beginning of the season.

Luyinda, formerly an assistant to Abdallah Mubiru at Police before their relegation to the FUFA Big League, says that playing as a team, creating and utilising chances, have helped them lift their performances at the start of the season.

“Much of the credit goes to the players, they are working hard every day to get better and better and we are seeing good results, I just hope that they maintain this good run so that we can achieve more this season,” Luyinda reasoned.

“The game against URA, we were playing a good side but what we did best was to utilise our chances through counter attacks which paid off so well to see us get the three points,” he added.

Wakiso Giants opened the season with a 3-2 loss on the road to KCCA at the MTN Philip Omondi Stadium Lugogo but despite that defeat, they were the better side compared to KCCA and to many that watched that game agreed that the best team lost the game.

They went on to settle for a goalless draw against Maroons away in Luzira before picking up their first win at home to league debutants Blacks Power 2-1 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

They added another 1-0 win over UPDF away in Bombo and now most recently the 2-1 win against URA at the Kabaka Kyabaggu.

Former KCCA left-back turned striker, Moses Aliro, is one of the players who has been driving Wakiso Giants’ engine since last season. He has been involved in many crucial goals for the club and was the match-winner against URA on Tuesday.

Next on the menu for the Purple Sharks is a trip to the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankuluku to take on second-placed SC Villa.
