BUL FC is on top of the ladder with a one-point gap over Vipers SC in the second position and two on Kitara in the third position.

Kitara who have led the table for almost the entirety of the season dropped points on Friday 19, April at their home in Masindi to reigning champions Vipers who they had eliminated in the Uganda Cup on penalties a week before.

The three points could have cemented the royal's position at the summit.

The 2024 Uganda Premier League season has had almost five contenders and even with few games left, there is a likelihood that there will be more twists and turns.

It is unraveling so quickly for the three teams (BUL, Vipers, and Kitara) who are fighting for the crown this season.

For BUL this is a golden opportunity for them to hold on tight and keep the momentum. Despite keeping in touching distance with Kitara throughout the season, BUL looked for the team to drop out of the title conversation considering that they had lost seventy percent of their second-round games.

However, their draw against the then-table leaders Kitara in March closed the gap to four points before reducing them further to two after their subsequent win against Wakiso giants during the match day where Kitara lost 1-0 to NEC at Philip Omondi stadium.

BUL has been knocking on the door for UPL glory for two consecutive years now. Having led the title charge last season and imploded in the quarter of the second round, they know it is a rare opportunity that has been handed to them by Kitara’s inconsistency in the last few games.

They still have to play the triple header against NEC both in the UPL and in the Uganda cup before taking a trip to Vipers at St Mary’s stadium, certainly, BUL will have a clear picture about their season, finishing it with a double, one sized trophy or nothing at all.

This season’s title race has been branded as the best in years and potentially one for the ages, not because of the competitiveness or unpredictability but the fact that two underdogs in BUL and Kitara have upset the status quo and also eliminated KCCA and Vipers in the league cup competition.

Many are ready to handle Vipers the trophy but BUL have launched their ambitions at a perfect time.
