Weightlifter Lydia Nakidde has made Uganda proud after winning two bronze medals at the Africa Senior Weightlifting Championships in Egypt.

She beat a field of 10 competitors to finish with a bronze in clean and jerk and also finishing third overall to bag a bronze.

She snatched 67kg and made 87 in clean and jerk for a total of 154 behind Moroccan Aya Amiroun who made a total of 164kg.

It was Shima Rahmoni of Tunisia that bagged all gold medals.

She handed over the two bronze medals she won in the championships in Ismailia in Egypt to Uganda Weightlifting Federation (UWF) president Salim Musoke at Kasubi Physique Gym where the national team is training for the Thailand World Cup.

“I saw the areas to improve and I thank my coach Kassim Nsubuga who guided me well. I did not exceed my personal best of 154 kg in the 61 kg category but I now know where to improve. But to achieve this, I need facilitation for good feeding and other amenities to hype on the training for better results,” said the 24-year-old who stands number four in Africa.

Only two athletes travelled to the Africa Senior Championships due to lack of funds.
