Harriet Apako Memorial Championship set for June 8

Harriet Apako was a former She Cranes player who died in 2015 after participating in the Netball World Cup held in Sydney, Australia. Jesse Asiimwe, one of the organisers, highlighted the importance of this memorial tournament.
So far, 40 clubs and schools have confirmed their participation in the Harriet Apako Memorial Netball Championships slated for June 8 to 9. The two-day tournament will take place at the Police Children’s playground in Kibuli, attracting clubs and schools.
Harriet Apako was a former She Cranes player who died in 2015 after participating in the Netball World Cup held in Sydney, Australia. Jesse Asiimwe, one of the organisers, highlighted the importance of this memorial tournament.
“It is very essential to remember our fallen stars. Apako was a star who contributed immensely towards the development of netball. She played her part, and by remembering her, it is a sign to the young netball players that if you utilize your talent well, you will always be appreciated,” Asiimwe explained.
Super League clubs that have already confirmed participation include; NIC, KCCA, Makindye Weyonje, Police, Busia Greater Lions, UGISA, and Dynamite Netball Club.
Winners will be awarded trophies and certificates, as confirmed by the organizers. Apako played for several clubs, including Railway Netball Club, NIC, and Police Netball Club.
Harriet Apako died at the age of 43 and was laid to rest at her ancestral grounds in Kaberamaido.
