More questions continue to be raised about the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU)  ability to organise the 2021 calendar activities following the last-minute cancellation of Autocross,4x4, and Buggy championships on Sunday.

On Saturday, drivers were told that the event had been put off again. The event was meant to be held on March 21 then moved to 28.

On March 23, FMU got a recommendation from the State Minister for Sports Hamson Obua which gave hope to drivers, but they were surprised when the autocross event was put off.

“There must be something wrong in FMU, why is it that the Enduro Club successfully organised their event, MAU has organised over four activities,” a driver who preferred anonymity said.

Earlier on, the Clerk of the Course for the event Shafik Matovu told New Vision that the Police had refused to clear the event saying that rallying is a crowd-pulling event.

Sources have it that besides a few drivers undergoing a Covid-19 test because of late communication, the federation did not accompany its letter with a detailed safety plan on how to control crowds.

“It is true that we just sent our letter requesting the services of the Police. We did not attach any safety details because we expected to be called if necessary to present it,” the FMU official said.

This has worried rally drivers who plan to take part in the SMC Masaka rally due next month in Sembabule.
