Nakidde and Niyoyita to represent Uganda at IWF World Cup

In a move aimed at securing spots at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Uganda will field two weightlifters at the upcoming International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup scheduled for March 31 to April 11, in Phuket, Thailand.

This event stands as the final opportunity for Olympic qualification on the IWF calendar, and thus, Davis Niyoyita and Lydia Nakidde are poised to seize this last chance with fervor and determination.

Under the guidance of coach Khasim Nsubuga, the duo has embarked on a rigorous training program, fully committed to enhancing their standings on the Paris world-qualifying list.

Competing in the 61kg category, Davis Niyoyita is resolute in his pursuit of Olympic qualification. 

"With this opportunity at hand, I am fully devoted to making it count. The Olympics represent the pinnacle of every athlete's aspirations, and I will spare no effort in realising this dream," Niyoyita affirmed.

Likewise, Lydia Nakidde, set to compete in the 64kg category, echoes a similar sentiment of determination and focus on her Olympic quest.

If the two athletes secure their slots for the Olympic Games, it will mark a historic milestone as they grace the Olympic stage for the very first time.

Coach Khasim Nsubuga exudes confidence in the capabilities of his athletes, emphasizing their unwavering commitment and dedication to success.
