Rally driver Ibrahim Lubega has attributed his victory in the SMC Masaka rally to the reliability of his navigator Shakira Nabwami.

Lubega popularly known as Pasuwa in a Toyota FX beat stiff opposition from Oscar Ntambi, Dr. Godfrey Nsereko, and Samuel Watendwa to win the two-day rally.

Watendwa, Ntambi and Nsereko dropped out of the event.

Lubega now top of the log with 52points, two ahead of Oscar Ntambi (50pts) has vowed to go for wins in the remaining two events the Kasanda rally and the MOSAC rally to retain his title.

“Now that the title has gone to the wire, we are taking the fight to Kasanda and we want to win. Of the 40 points at stake, we want only 35 points from the two events and are declared champions,” Lubega explained.

“I want to thank my navigator Shakira for the commitment and focus that has led us to victory,” Lubega added.

He urged fellow drivers to go for female navigators because they are reliable.

“Female navigators are very reliable and willing to learn, but most importantly, they are committed to what they do and do not front money like the men,” he added.

He explained that female navigators enjoy rallying, but because most of them do not have the financial ability to own cars, they use navigation as a chance to showcase their ability and contribution to motorsport.

He, however, noted that the only challenge women have during rallies is when you get mechanical issues in the stages, you suffer alone to fix it as she just looks on.

At the moment, Mildred Kibuuka, Mariam Nambasa, Diana Nagawa, Khuzainat Nakanwagi, Ritah Nakigozi, Immaculate Najuma, and Ritah Katono are the other female navigators.
