Goals galore as heavyweights Buddo, Kimanya secure knockout berths

Home side Blessed Sacrament Kimanya became one of the first teams to qualify for the round of 32 at the ongoing USSSA national boys football championship in hometown Masaka, after winning two games in their group.

Kimanya who had beaten Tawheed 3-0 in their first game, dispatched fancied Bukedea Comprehensive 2-1 in a game watched by hundreds of spectators at Masaka SS grounds, to book their place in the round of 32.

Elvis Torach and Patrick Mutebi scored the goals for the home side before Elisa Ssekisambu pulled one for the Bukedea side.

The game was interrupted by angry fans, who stormed the pitch claiming a Kimanya player had deliberately been injured by a Bukedea player before he was rushed to hospital in a waiting ambulance.

Police swung into action to quell the crowd for the game to resume but Bukedea could not recover.

Kimanya was joined by Buddo SS in the knockout round, with the 2018 champions having beaten Bulo Parents 6-1 before dispatching Kabong SS 3-0 and the day’s biggest winners Amus College who walloped Madox SS 14-0 making it two wins in as many games.

In other games, main hosts Masaka SS were held to a 0-0 draw by Ankole champions Welden School with the two teams playing their first game of the championship.

Officials calming some of the fans that stormed the pitch to manhandle the center referee.
