The business community in Rukungiri has urged Motorsport Africa Club (MOSAC) to regularly take the rally on their land.

Led by Businessman Wencslas Maanige, they said that they last saw the rally in the 80s but very well know the benefits associated with it and they are ready to support it.

Maanige noted this before handing over a sh85m cheque to MOSAC president Frank Bayendera in Rukungiri.

“We are committed to the development of the Kigezi region and together with the business community, we have agreed to support motorsport to be able to take place regularly in Kigezi.

This year’s edition of the MOSAC rally will take place on Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11, in Rukungiri district and some parts of Ntungamo.

The three-day event, the seventh and final round of the NRC, will cover six competitive stages totaling 124 km of competitive distance.

The stages include Pole Pole (25km) Nyabikuku (16km), Platinum Kikon (27km), and Rwobusisi (23Kms).

The event to determine the 2012 national rally champion has Ponsiano Lwakataka on top of the log with 332 points, 60.5points ahead of Jonas Kansiime (271.5) in the second position while Byron Rugomoka(254pts) is third.

Sports is the most reliable tool of mobilisation and Motorsport Africa Club (MOSAC) shall use the Kigezi Boona rally to raise resources to support the Outpatient department of Rukungiri Health Centre IV.

The club will also use the event to mobilise fans to donate blood, raise funds for the painting of the Zebra crossing at St. Gerald School and buy reflector jackets for boda-boda riders to promote road safety.

Frank Bayendera, the president of Motorsport Africa Club (MOSAC), the organising club disclosed this at the launch of the event on Tuesday.

“The proceeds of the event will support the outpatient department of the Rukungiri health centre, and I appeal to all the business community to support this noble cause,” Bayendera said.
